Dr. Helen Yoo believes dentistry works best when patients feel genuinely cared for — not just treated. Born in Seoul, South Korea, and raised in Toronto, Helen went on to complete a Bachelor of Science at the University of Toronto before earning her Doctor of Dental Medicine at the University of Sydney.
Before co-founding Waterloo West Dentistry in 2022 alongside her husband, Dr. Andrew Darroch, Helen practiced throughout the Kitchener-Waterloo region — and it was during those years that she fell in love with the community she now calls home.
Helen has a particular passion for cosmetic and reconstructive dentistry, as well as working with younger patients. Still a kid at heart herself, she takes real pride in making dental visits genuinely enjoyable for children, with the goal of building comfortable, positive associations with the dentist that carry into adulthood.
She is a registered member of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, the Ontario Dental Association, and the Canadian Board of Aesthetic Medicine, and is additionally qualified to provide neuromodulator (muscle-relaxing) treatments for patients dealing with TMJ disorders and jaw pain.
Outside the clinic, Helen can usually be found at a spin class, experimenting in the kitchen, or on a mini adventure with Andrew and their labradoodle.
